It’s easy to get caught up in all the high-end beauty products and trends. Isn’t that what keeps Sephora in business? Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a trip to Sephora, which is only five minutes away and a tempting trap to burn any extra cash…or the cash I should be saving. Some products can be worth the higher price tag, but there are many items I choose to swap for a cheaper version. They do the job just fine and don’t blow your paycheck. Here are some products I prefer to buy on the cheap
Affordable Go-To Favorites
Carrington Farms Organic Extra Virgin Unrefined Coconut Oil
For the best price, it can be found at Walmart for under $7
I love this brand because it lasts a long time, is affordable, and makes my skin smooth and renewed in the morning!
Johnson’s baby lotion
Buy it at Walmart for $3.86 for 15 oz!
I’ve always loved the smell of baby lotion! Some probably think it’s crazy to use something made for babies, but it really does the trick. I use this as my daily face lotion, instead of some fancy, expensive brand. It is very moisturizing and doesn’t leave my face dry and flaky.
Garnier BB Cream
Right now this BB Cream is on sale at Walmart for $10.94
I use fair/light for my skin tone, but it also comes in medium/deep for those of you who have a darker skin tone. It has a really creamy formula, which is good for my dry skin. I have tried many BB creams (and CC creams too), but so often they make my skin even drier. It lasts throughout the day, blends nicely, and doesn’t leave my face looking orange! This bottle lasts a long time, and you won’t need much for each use.
Neutrogena mineral sheers loose powder foundation
Target sells the powder for $8.39
I use this product in ivory and have been a fan of it for years. I can’t even remember when I first started using it, but when I don’t want to pay loads for Clinique powder (which I do love), this is my daily go-to! It is light but gives enough coverage and lasts a long time.
Wet n Wild coloricon bronzer with SPF 15
Buy the bronzer at Target for just $3.97
Wet n Wild is great for a budget. I’ve used everything from their eyeshadow to lipstick for years on the cheap. The bronzer is light and just enough of a bronzed look without being too dark. I also love the SPF 15 in the bronzer for a little extra protection, no matter what time of year.
Covergirl Blastpro So Lashy! Mascara
Buy it at Walmart for $8.94
This one is my latest favorite drugstore mascara. It’s affordable, and the design of the brush is the best part. The circular shape on the tip of the brush gets all those baby lashes and is great for the bottom lashes too! My lashes have been looking much longer these days!
Nivea a kiss of moisture lip care
Target sells a pack of 2 for $3.49
I have been using this as my only lip balm for years now. I never wear lipstick or lip gloss without putting this on first to keep my lips moisturized. I can tell a difference in just one night if I forget to put some on before bed. It really keeps my lips from getting dry or cracking, even when the weather gets cold.
Milani Matte Color Statement Lipstick
Buy at Walgreens for just $5.79
I had been wanting to find a good, cheap, matte lipstick for awhile and came across this particular one from Milani. I’ve used Milani products before so knew they were good and affordable, but I am absolutely loving this color. It’s just the right shade and goes on smoothly and not too shiny like some. This is my go-to color now!
Covergirl trunaked eyeshadow palette in nudes
Walmart has the best price at $9.98…for a whole palette?!
This is another product I’ve been using on a daily basis for a long time now, probably right after it came out. There’s no need for those expensive Urban Decay naked palettes! This one does the job for a low price. I’ve discovered I really don’t need more colors than what’s in this palette. I end up only using the same few anyway, so I don’t want to spend a fortune on one of the expensive palettes!
Those are all my affordable, drugstore necessities, but there are a few higher end products I try to keep on hand and make last longer than my other products. These are the four more expensive products I always try to have, because they have proven to be some of my favorites, after trying MANY beauty items!
Benefit they’re real lengthening and volumizing mascara
Sold at Sephora for $24
I really have not found a better mascara than this one! Of course I am satisfied with my daily drugstore mascara mentioned above, but overall, this one ranks number one. I discovered it years ago and try to use it sparingly, so it will last a long time. It separates every lash and makes them look dark, full, and long like no other!
Clinique even better foundation with SPF 15
Buy at Macy’s for $27, and receive a free gift with purchase!
I tried Clinique products back in the summer before our vacation, and for daily use, this foundation is one of the best I’ve tried. It’s very light and moisturizing. It doesn’t flake or dry out my skin and definitely lasts all day. I feel like it gives my face good coverage. It helps even out the skin and correct and spots or marks.
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon Blacquer
Buy at Sephora for $25
I actually discovered this eyeliner from an ipsy delivery as a sample. The sample lasted a long time, but I recently had to replace it with the full-size liner. This is truly the most amazing eyeliner I’ve ever used. It glides on so smoothly, leaving a sleek line. It isn’t stiff and makes it easy to be precise. I don’t know what I did before I found this product!
Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in So Sofia
Buy at Sephora for $30
First of all, this color is like none other. I actually came across this lipstick after talking about Marc Jacobs cosmetics with a friend. I was recommending the eye liner, and she told me how much she loves the lipstick. Of course, I had to try it! It is creamy and moisturizing, which I’ve always had a hard time finding in a lip color. They almost always leave my lips dry and sticky after a short time. Try this one for yourself, and you won’t be disappointed!
I’m obviously a huge fan of drugstore cosmetics, not only because of the price but because I can’t justify spending so much of our hard-earned dollars on all my makeup….and I LOVE makeup! So many drugstore products do the same job as their fancy counterparts, and I’ve even found a few I like better than high-end. You may find it worth the $10 a month for an ipsy subscription for a few months. I subscribed for five or six months and got tons of samples (and a cute makeup bag each time!), which I’m still using from the stash in my bathroom drawer. I discovered several new products I hadn’t heard of before by having an ipsy subscription. It’s one of the best monthly services, because it is month-to-month and can be cancelled at any time. My last tip is to check CVS when hunting for bargain beauty buys. If you have a CVS card, it’s often worth buying beauty products there to get CVS extrabucks to use on future purchases!
